Places You Must Definitely Visit in Delhi

Delhi officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi is a city and Union Territory of India, which includes New Delhi, the capital of India. New Delhi is a part of Delhi, people often believe both of them to be one and the same, but they are not.

The city has a rich cultural and historical heritage as it has been ruled by Maharajas, Mughal Emperors, Marathas and also the Britishers, whose influence can easily be seen in Delhi.

Delhi is also one of the most populated cities in India as well as in the world. Delhi is a city which has three UNESCO world heritage sites, which is a delight for the tourists. So if you are planning on going to Delhi, you should definitely check out these places.

Qutub Minar

It is one of the three UNESCO world heritage sites in the Mehrauli area of Delhi. Humayun’s Tomb

Another one of UNESCO world heritage site is a tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, it was built by his first wife in memory of Humayun, much like the opposite of Taj Mahal.

But it was built 76 years earlier, in 1572. The architecture is a mix of Persian, Mughal and Indian architecture, which will definitely captivate you.

Red Fort

The last of the three UNESCO world heritage sites is Red Fort, it used to be the residence of Mughal Emperors until 1856.

The fort lies along the Yamuna river, the architecture and its building will definitely make you appreciate its beauty, and it was designed by the architect Ustad Ahmad Lahouri, who also designed the Taj Mahal, interested now?

It is a memorial built for the soldiers who died during the third Anglo-Afghan war and the first world war. There is 13300 servicemen’s name inscribed on the structure, and it looks beautiful during the night and becomes a hotbed of people.India Gate Dehli

Jantar Mantar

It is a place which consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments, built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. It is an observatory which was built to compile astronomical tables and also predict the movements of sun, moon and planets. I can bet that you will be awed by it.

Akshardham Temple

It is a Hindu temple and a spiritual-cultural campus in Delhi. The temple reflects the beauty, spirituality of India’s ancient art, culture and architecture. Jama Masjid

It is one of the largest mosques in India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan who also built the Taj Mahal. It is yet another example of Mughal architecture which is simply amazing, it is near the red fort, you can also take photos by paying a minimum amount of money.

These are some of the few places you should visit if you are in Delhi, but by no means, am I saying that these are the only places to see. There are a lot of places to see such as Chandni Chowk, Connaught place, Raj Ghat etc.

Delhi is a city overflowing with culture, art and historical heritage and the more you explore, the more you will be amazed, so do put Delhi in the list of places, you must definitely visit.

There are also different markets in the city, which have been there for a long time, and are simply amazing if you are in Delhi or plan on coming to Delhi, these markets are the one you should definitely check out.

Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk [moonlight square] is one of the oldest and the busiest shopping areas in the heart of old Delhi and not to mention, one of the most famous places to visit in Delhi and can be described in a single word INSANE. Dariba Kalan

It is a place full of jewellers selling silver jewellery, built in the 17th century. You can find a lot of beautiful silver jewellery there, and that too at a really low price.

Bhagirath Palace

It is Asia’s biggest wholesale market for lamps and light fixtures, you can also find yourself a lot of electrical and electronic goods, but the lanterns that glow during the night are the ones, that will captivate you.

Kinari Bazaar

If you are looking for a place that sells fabrics, sarees or anything related, then Kinari Bazaar is the place you should definitely go.

Khari Baoli

India is the home of spices and you can literally find any spice you want. They also have a lot of dried foods and other products.

There are a lot of places in Chandni Chowk, and everyone is simply amazing and the street food there is something to definitely try.

Dilli Haat

It is a craft bazaar spread on 6 acres of land, you can find cottages and kiosks giving an amazing feeling, it is also an open plaza serving a lot of delicious foods. You can find a lot of things such as carvings, pottery, beads, gems, sophisticated drapery etc.


If you are a book lover, then this place is heaven for you. You can find rarest of the books at the cheapest price literally. It only opens on Sunday, so do check it out.

Chor Bazaar

Chor Bazaar [thief market] is one market you must definitely visit, it is behind Red Fort and it only opens on Sunday, but you will find everything from branded clothes to leather bags, hardware to electronics, you name it they have it.
